“What? Me Change my Mind?”
If you were to put a wooden board, five inches wide and eight feet long, on the ground, could you walk along the board without falling off it? Of course you could. Piece of cake. If that same board was suspended between two building, twenty-two stories above the ground, how would you feel about walking along it? There’s no difference in your ability, only in your mind.
Psychologist Nicholas Humphrey tells of the case of Haitian Voodoo believers who actually die, apparently from some psychosomatic effect or terror, within mere days of having a malign “spell” cast upon them. Coming from Africa, I know first-hand the power of mysticism and witchcraft, and it’s present incarnation into modern life, cults, sects, and religion.
I am often amused at those who tell me they’re making a fortune in dealing foreign exchange on their home computers, and they they can show me how to do the same, as long as I sign up for the same program they did, which costs many thousands of dollars. Naturally, they would stand to make a healthy commission if I was desperate and naive enough to take their advice. The truth is that when pressed for more information, they might admit that they are making a fortune IN THEORY, since they are using the simulator program (for which they pay an exorbitant monthly fee) - it’s still a game. The wooden board is on the ground. They haven’t actually invested any real money in Forex. As you might anticipate, using real money will alter things in their minds (the board will be raised twenty-two stories) and they will not make money. And that’s kindly without assuming the simulator is not “fixed” to encourage these marks and stimulate them to invite their friends to join the scam.
Stepping out of the classroom filled with cheering enthusiasts into the real business world can make a difference. Even when the board is on the ground, we convince ourselves that it’s very high up and risky. It’s all in your head. We know that our circumstances will change only when WE change, and that change is beyond intellectually accepting some business or psychological principles. Change is a door that can only be opened from the inside.
The Buddha said, “Everything is based on mind, is led by mind, is fashioned by mind. If you speak and act with a polluted mind, suffering will follow you, as the wheels of the oxcart follow the footsteps of the ox. Everything is based on mind, is led by mind, is fashioned by mind. If you speak and act with a pure mind, happiness will follow you, as a shadow clings to a form.”
The burning question is, of course, “How do we change?” What method can we use that will sufficiently shift our internal interpretations of , and beliefs about opportunity, money, value, entitlement, and supply and demand, to make it possible to apply what we learn in the real world? How can we learn to walk confidently along the board?
To reprogram your mind and set yourself up for success is easier than you may think, using the right tools. I recently purchased a new set of kitchen knives - it’s amazing how easy it when you use a sharp knife, and effective tool - the right tools. When I got into business 21 years ago, I got hold of the right tools, surrounded myself with the right people, and followed their instructions to the letter. I wanted to succeed VERY BADLY. So I didn’t second-guess, doubt, or question the advice of my mentors. They were millionaires and I wasn’t - go figure. It worked. The tools and support now available to you are far superior to that which was available to me, and it costs a fraction of what I paid. Three simple steps:
1. Get the ongoing training, support, and input you need about business and money from DollarMakers. Join our Club, invest in our Success Library (includes Membership), and attend every Bootcamp you possibly can.
2. Join Success University - it’s all the self-development and personal growth you will ever need and it will make you money into the bargain - for $149 and a mere $49 per month, it doesn’t get any better than this.
3. Align your philosophy so that you free yourself from the misconceptions and damaging beliefs about money and business that sabotage so many good people by reading Ayn Rand’s book, “Atlas Shrugged” - the best book you’ll ever read. Available in your library or bookstore.
If you’re a woman, consider our DollarMakers Women’s Club and our Women’s Wealth Workshopsas an additional option. The next Women’s Wealth Workshop will be in Worthing, Sussex, UK, February 2.
What will your life look like in one year’s time? You stand at the crossroads as you read this. When you look back at your life a year from now, you will have only yourself to answer o. You will either be regretful or grateful - it’s your choice. I look forward to working with you.
